Well, we live in interesting times! Despite the continuing impact of the pandemic we managed to present our 3-day festival – back in Bath at the beautiful Assembly Rooms, welcoming audiences but also offering live-streaming for those not able to attend. That was before Storm Eunice did her worst, which caused us to cancel our first concert in the 32 year history of Bath Mozartfest, never mind the 11 years of Bath Bachfest.
So, sadly, no Tenebrae, but there were outstanding performances from Arcangelo, Xuefei Yang, Michala Petri & Mahan Esfahani and the Academy of Ancient Music which thrilled audiences and critics alike. It seemed that even the endless rain could not dampen spirits.
One happily returning audience member declared Bath Bachfest to be: “Pure joy! Glorious music – every concert a delight – I didn’t want it to end”.
The varied and appealing programmes of music by Bach and his Baroque contemporaries received rapturous applause and one happy critic summed it up: “Despite everything that was thrown at them prior to and during the festival, thanks to the enormous efforts of Amelia Freedman and her small team, Bath Bachfest 2022 was a tremendous success”.
Bath Bachfest 2023 will take place from: Thursday 16 to Saturday 18 February.
Meanwhile, we hope you will join us this Autumn for our sister festival
Friday 11 to Saturday 19 November 2022
