BATH BACHFEST 2024 – ENDING ON A POSITIVE NOTE…

“Almost as miraculous as the high quality of music on display is the fact that throughout its existence, this is the Bachfest’s thirteenth year, it has survived, without any public funding, thanks to the first-class programmes assembled by Amelia Freedman, its loyal supporters, the dedicated work of its chairman, directors, small staff team and splendid volunteers.”

Praise indeed from a critic, echoed in the five-star reviews of Tenebrae’s glorious opening concert and then Bath-favourite Mahan Esfahani’s outstanding harpsichord recital in The Guardian and Observer newspapers.

So the critics approved of Bath Bachfest 2024, and we are delighted to report that feedback tells us that audiences did too, with ticket sales, at last, almost back to pre-pandemic levels and enthusiastic comments and messages telling us how hotly anticipated our brief festival is and how it enlivens the dreariest winter days.

As ever the music of J S Bach took centre stage, but there were new delights in store, too, particularly in the Academy of Ancient Music’s exploration of The Art of the Italian Concerto. Also in the arrangements for classical guitar which the Katona Twins introduced to beguiled Bath audiences.

And we predict that Théotime Langlois se Swarte will be a star in the violin firmament – his appearance with Arcangelo, directed from the harpsichord by Jonathan Cohen, brought the 2024 Bath Bachfest to a delightful conclusion and won him many new fans.

We look forward to seeing you again at Bath Mozartfest,
