Armstrong Gibbs The Turning Year
Dove The Passing of the Year
Jules Mouquet “La Flûte de Pan” Op. 15

Armstrong Gibbs’ 1958 cantata The Turning Year has four movements portraying each season in lyrical style. Jonathan Dove’s thrilling The Passing of the Year for double choir and piano, written in 2000, brings to musical life the words of William Blake, Emily Dickinson, George Peele and Thomas Nashe, concluding with Alfred Lord Tennyson’s New Year celebration ‘Ring out, wild bells’.

Ed Blackwall, flautist and winner of Bath Young Musician of the Year 2024, will perform Mouquet’s “La Flûte de Pan” and partsongs from Edward Elgar to Ola Gjeilo will complete the programme exploring the riches of the changing year.

Conductor: Katrine Reimers
Piano: George Bevan
