Gramophone Magazine has described Tenebrae’s singing as ‘devastatingly beautiful’, and the award-winning choir, under the direction of Nigel Short, is undoubtedly one of the leading vocal ensembles performing today. Their Bachfest programme opens with Gesualdo’s work Tenebrae Responsories for Holy Saturday – Tenebrae referring to the church services observed during the final 3 days of Holy Week from which the choir takes its name. Then three much-loved Bach motets, together forming a programme of sacred gems perfect for this ensemble known for its passion and precision.
