Unearthing long-buried narratives, Hallie Rubenhold and Dr Madeline Pelling invite us to confront the uncomfortable truths behind the women who are remembered and why. A vital re-examination of the silenced and forgotten through an unflinching, feminist lens. In conversation with Ali Millar.

Revered for restoring history to its rightful account no matter the stinging social impact, Hallie Rubenhold is a historian, podcaster, lecturer, historical adviser for period dramas and bestselling author of The Five; The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper, and most recently Story of A Murder: The Wives, the Mistresses and Dr Crippen.

Award-winning cultural historian, author and broadcaster, Dr Madeleine Pelling has become a true light in the dark for those history does not favour. She is also co-host of History Hit’s After Dark.

Ali Millar is the critically acclaimed Scottish author of Ava Anna Ada (White Rabbit, 2024) and The Last Days (PRH, 2022). Working across books, screen and journalism, her work has appeared in The Sunday Times, The Guardian, The Stylist and The Independent.

As a broadcast journalist she has interviewed some of the world's leading authors including Samantha Harvey, Tommy Orange and Maggie O'Farrell. In 2024, The Scotsman named her an artist to watch, most recently, she was a UNESCO AIR Literature fellow in Sweden, where she worked on a biography of Louise Bourgeois. She regularly tutors and has acted as visiting lecturer at University of Bologna, Glasgow University and Bath Spa University.
