Mozart’s G minor String Quintet contains some of his most emotionally charged music, with a slow movement that bares the composer’s innermost feelings of anguish. It is preceded with one of Haydn’s most sparkling quartets, and a work by Mendelssohn which places him squarely in the first rank of string quartet composers.
