Freedom of expression is as vital as it is complex, but how do writers navigate this freedom? How do they act conscientiously without self-censoring? Should all subjects and narrative perspectives be available to all people? And do we – readers, critics, publishers – successfully nurture an environment in which writers can be truly free? Authors Sheena Patel, Derek Owusu and Juliet Jacques join English PEN’s vice chair Aki Schilz to discuss what freedom of expression means to them and its impact on their work.
