MF11 Elias String Quartet

One of the leading ensembles of the current generation

Assembly Rooms

The Elias String Quartet is internationally acclaimed as one of the leading ensembles of the current generation. The quartet travels the globe collaborating
with some of the finest musicians and playing in the world’s great halls.

Their Bath programme features one of Haydn’s most challenging and unsettling works, Op 50 No 4, with its unusual F sharp minor home key, then moves to Beethoven. The Elias Quartet has a particular affinity with Beethoven and has performed and recorded his complete string quartets. The concert features the middle of the three string quartets Op 59, commissioned in 1806 by the Russian Ambassador to Vienna, Count Andreas Razumovsky, after whom they are known. With the late quartets these are arguably the composer’s most popular quartets, and they are the perfect showcase for the intense and vibrant playing for which the Elias String Quartet is renowned.
