MF2 Leonard Elschenbroich & Alexei Grynyuk

Mozart, Brahms & Beethhoven

Assembly Rooms

These two outstanding musicians are familiar to Bath audiences playing together and in a trio with violinist Nicola Benedetti.

The Ukrainian-born pianist Alexei Grynyuk will open with Mozart’s final piano sonata, often nicknamed The Trumpet Sonata or The Hunt for its hornlike opening. In Brahms’ Vier ernste Gesänge (Four Serious Songs) the cello takes the place of the bass voice alongside the piano. Their programme concludes with Beethoven’s Cello Sonata No 5 in D major Op 102. The Op 102 sonatas puzzled the composer’s contemporaries but are now regarded as the beginning of his final and arguably most profound period.
