MF8 Williams and Allan

A Birthday Celebration for Ralph Vaughan Williams

Assembly Rooms

This year is the 150th anniversary of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ birth. The prolific composer’s much-loved works encompass opera, ballet, chamber music, orchestral works, and both religious and secular pieces.

He played a pivotal role in the renaissance of British music in the first half of the twentieth century. His exploration of the work of earlier English composers and folk music encouraged an enduring resurgence of interest in British music-making. Ralph Vaughan Williams’ impact and influence cannot be overestimated as this celebratory concert will so richly illustrate.

Includes Post-concert Talk:
Writer and broadcaster Dr Kate Kennedy joins Roderick Williams for a discussion about tonight’s concert.
