It is with regret that Eric Lu has unexpectedly had to withdraw from his planned Bath Mozartfest concert. We are, however, delighted to announce that Alim Beisembayev, the winner of the 2021 Leeds Piano Competition, will now give the recital on Wednesday 17 November at 7.30pm.

Alim ’s programme will be

Mozart Sonata No 9 in D major K 311
Ravel Oiseaux tristes and Une barque sur l’océan from Miroirs
Beethoven Sonata No 23 in F minor Op 57 Appassionata
Chopin Twenty-four preludes Op 28

ALIM BEISEMBAYEV is the remarkable young pianist who won First Prize at The Leeds Piano Competition 2021 in September. He also took home the medici.tv Audience Prize and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society Prize for contemporary performance – altogether a most impressive showing.

Aged just 23 years the Kazakhstan-born pianist attended London’s prestigious Purcell School for Young Musicians, then the Royal Academy of Music. He is currently completing his master’s degree at the Royal College of Music, alongside an already exciting performance schedule which has included recitals at Wigmore Hall and Royal Festival Hall. More are planned across the UK, alongside tours of Europe and Korea and Alim’s debut release with Warner Classics took place last month.
This includes works by Maurice Ravel from Miroirs, which Alim played in the semi-final of the Leeds Piano Competition, and which he will also play in his Bath concert.

This will open, fittingly, with Mozart – here Sonata No. 9 in D major K211 – then Beethoven’s technically challenging and darkly dramatic Appassionata, closing with Chopin, Twenty Four preludes Op 28. A wonderful, wide ranging programme which will allow Alim Beisembayev to reveal why The Guardian’s critic described him as ‘a worthy winner… with a real musical personality.

Also available in person at the Assembly Rooms here.

Supported by Primrose & David Bell

The Livestream will be available from 30 minutes prior to the start time of the concert.
