Rigoletto, an opera by Giuseppe Verdi, tells the powerful story of a court jester whose biting humour conceals a life shaped by fear, love, and anger. In the corrupt court of the Duke of Mantua, Rigoletto mocks others to survive, while fiercely protecting his daughter, Gilda, whose innocence stands in stark contrast to the world around her. When Gilda is drawn into the Duke’s web of seduction, Rigoletto’s longing for revenge unleashes tragic and irreversible consequences.
Verdi’s score brings this drama vividly to life, moving effortlessly between sparkling wit and profound emotional depth. The Duke’s famously carefree aria La donna è mobile captures his charm and moral emptiness in a melody instantly recognisable even to first-time opera-goers, while the music as a whole darkens inexorably towards the opera’s devastating conclusion. This performance will be in the English language.
Tessitoura was founded in 2010 to share the joy and excitement of opera. The company soon became known for unique and intimate performances, accompanied by a chamber orchestra to create an authentic opera experience with a sense of connection between performers and audience.
