Step off the beaten track and rediscover Bath through gardens, canals and stories hiding in plain sight.

Step away from the crowds and discover a different side of Bath on this guided walking tour with Fred Mawer Tours. Focusing on the elegant yet often overlooked Bathwick neighbourhood, on the eastern side of the River Avon, the walk begins along monumental Great Pulteney Street before winding through Sydney Gardens, once Bath’s fashionable pleasure gardens. From there, enjoy a scenic stretch of the Kennet & Avon Canal and a relaxed return along the river.

Along the way you’ll uncover details about Georgian architecture and society, Bath’s surprisingly rich industrial past, and intriguing connections to literature, music and filming locations.

Whether you’re new to the city or think you already know it well, this tour promises fresh insights and a thoroughly enjoyable walk.

Tours will be led by Phil Arthur and Fred Mawer, who are professional Blue Badge-qualified tour guides specialising in Bath. The Blue Badge is the UK’s top guiding qualification.

Start: Laura Place at the junction with Argyle Street (BA2 4BJ)

Finish: By Pulteney Bridge

Walk length: Around 2 miles.

Not suitable for wheelchair users. Canal towpath may be muddy.
