How do you transform an idea into a finished short story, book or piece?

Join critically acclaimed author and screenwriter, Ali Millar for a two hour workshop on the processes essential to developing an idea into something larger. During this workshop you will learn how to polish and articulate your idea, the importance of structure in storytelling, and delve deeper into your ideas to draw them out. At the end of the workshop, you will leave with a short pitch or longline for your idea, allowing you to work on it in your own time, an overview of structure and plot, and insight into how to develop your own process that works for you.

Ali Millar is the critically acclaimed Scottish author of Ava Anna Ada (White Rabbit, 2024) and The Last Days (PRH, 2022). Working across books, screen and journalism, her work has appeared in The Sunday Times, The Guardian, The Stylist and The Independent.

As a broadcast journalist she has interviewed some of the world's leading authors including Samantha Harvey, Tommy Orange and Maggie O'Farrell. In 2024, The Scotsman named her an artist to watch, most recently, she was a UNESCO AIR Literature fellow in Sweden, where she worked on a biography of Louise Bourgeois. She regularly tutors and has acted as visiting lecturer at University of Bologna, Glasgow University and Bath Spa University.
