13 by Mike Bartlett
13 is a character driven political play revolving around the lives of 12 unique people who simultaneously wake from a dystopian apocalyptic dream.
Each of them lives with there own personal turmoils whether it be tragic pasts, heavy burdens or responsibilities, austerity, being victims of various prejudice, or suffering from an identity crisis. All this during one of the harshest and most loaded socio political climates of the 21st century in which there is a perpetual battle of clashing ideologies which tests friendships, families and relationships to their limits. Amongst all this chaos a figure returns, thought to be dead, and he has a brighter vision of freedom for the future. But as he leads the people to revolution, some question whether he truly has the people’s best interests at heart, or whether there is a more personal motive at play. As the Prime Minister decides whether we will declare war with Iran, holding innocent lives in the balance, everyone’s voice will be heard but only one will decide and seal our fate.
Can one man change the world? Can the past ever be erased? Can you truly ever know if someone is good?
