“An ensemble of breathtaking freshness, vitality and balance” is how the New York Times summed up the British consort Stile Antico, an ensemble of twelve singers without a conductor which has won numerous awards in the UK, France, Germany and the Netherlands for its recordings. In this programme, the group pairs two well-known motets by Bach with music by his great predecessor Heinrich Schütz – including the moving Musikalische Exequien of 1636, a “German requiem” for an aristocratic friend.
