Tom (Liam Neeson) and Joan (Lesley Manville) are a couple who have been married for many years and are comfortable with each other’s idiosyncrasies. But when she is diagnosed with cancer, their whole relationship has to undergo a change. The significance of the title lies in the fact that such a situation happens every day, and yet is uniquely poignant and painful for each couple. Neeson takes a step back from his ageing action hero roles and allows Manville to show the full range of her talent as a woman coming to terms with the news everyone dreads. It will make you cry – in a good way.
