Beethoven’s sixteen String Quartets heard in a cycle form one of the greatest of all musical journeys. The early quartets sparkle with youthful exuberance leading to the symphonic ‘Razumovsky’ quartets of his middle period. Beethoven’s ‘late quartets’ offer some of the greatest of all music with an extraordinary mixture of grandeur, intimacy and sheer beauty offering intimations of mortality and the sublime.
Bath Festivals Beethoven String Quartet cycle is performed by two of the finest string quartets of today. Both have major international careers and are frequent performers at the Wigmore Hall, the home of world-class chamber music.
