J.M.W. Turner and John Constable were seen as opposites, not least by their peers. They differed in temperament, background, and vision, and yet in many ways they were fellow travellers. For although their contrasting works reflected their distinct personalities, both fought for the recognition and appreciation of landscape painting, and in so doing, ensured their reputations were forever intertwined.

Art historian Nicola Moorby (Turner & Constable: Art, Life, Landscape) offers a fresh perspective on these two remarkable artists, uncovering the layers of fiction that have embellished and disguised their greatest achievements.

Nicola Moorby is an independent art historian and curator specialising in British art of the 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly J. M.W Turner, British watercolour, and early British modernism.

The Lunchtime Lecture Series is sponsored by The Norie Trust.
