Jo Bell - poet, boat-dweller and the UK’s first Canal Laureate, reads from her memoir Boater and talks to Lucy English about life on England’s waterways.

Jo Bell is a poet, archaeologist, boat-dweller and the first Canal Laureate of the UK. A tumultuous love affair brought her to the Kennet & Avon canal and into Bath's backwaters, on her way to a nail-biting passage of the Severn Estuary. Her memoir Boater describes that adventure. It is an engaging history of the 'map within the map' - the England that most bank-dwellers never see - and of Jo’s rich creative life inside it, over twenty years. Come along to hear her read, and to ask all those questions about living aboard.
