The Bath Festival 2024

The Guildhall

Booker prize-winning novelist Howard Jacobson comes to Bath to discuss his heartfelt new novel, What Will Survive Of Us – an unforgettable love story about romance in later life, shot through with his trademark wit and humour.

Love can change your life. But can it survive it? Lily Redfern falls in love with Sam Quaid the minute she sets eyes on him. It takes Sam a day or two longer. Arriving in mid-life, their relationship opens unexpected new worlds. But what will happen to them when familiarity, illness and age begin to take their toll? What will survive?

Howard Jacobson won the Booker Prize in 2010 for The Finkler Question and is widely regarded as one of Britain’s greatest novelists. He talks to the festival’s guest curator, Joe Haddow.

Howard Jacobson has written 16 novels and five works of non-fiction. He won the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Award in 2000 for The Mighty Walzer and then again in 2013 for Zoo Time. In 2010 he won the Man Booker Prize for The Finkler Question; he was also shortlisted for the prize in 2014 for J.
