Plus Push by Elly Condron | FilmBath Festival

Little Theatre Cinema

Before the film we will be screening Push: Being 9 months pregnant is not a beautiful fucking miracle - at least not to Mags, who’s exactly that. Lonely, she seeks advice from a visitor, but instead is prodded out of self-pity and pushed towards the acceptance of what is about to become her new normal.

“Hysterically funny, defiantly gross and truly sweet,” is the opening line of the Roger Ebert review for this comedy about two women and their relationship with each other and with motherhood. It’s so rare to find a really good comedy by women, about women and for women (though men will, of course, learn a great deal). Dawn and Eden are friends, though Dawn has moved away with her husband and is now pregnant. When Eden also launches inadvertently into motherhood, the pair of them are launched unprepared into the world of labour pains, breastfeeding and all manner of unattractive but essential bodily functions. How great to find a film which is about real life and funny at the same time.

SYNOPSIS: Follows inseparable childhood best friends Eden (Ilana Glazer) and Dawn (Michelle Buteau), having grown up together in NYC, now firmly in different phases of adulthood. When carefree and single Eden decides to have a baby on her own after a one-night stand, their friendship faces its greatest challenge. BABES delves into the complexities of female friendship with a blend of laughter, tears, and labour pains.
