Robert Harris’s novel is set in Rome at the time of the death of the Pope, and the process by which his successor is chosen - known as a conclave. You might naively think that this would be lots of saintly men deciding who is the best candidate, but you’d be wrong. It’s a power struggle for one of the most important and powerful roles in the world. And poor old Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) has the unenviable job of overseeing the process. The film also stars Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow and Isabella Rosselini, and gives us a compelling insight into what goes on behind closed doors in order to select the head of the Catholic Church. And of course there are secrets, revelations and unexpected twists. What could be more fun?

SYNOPSIS:
A conclave is one of the world's most secretive and ancient events: the selection of a new pope. Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) is tasked with running this covert process after the unexpected death of the beloved Pope. Once the Catholic Church's most powerful leaders have gathered from around the world and are locked together in the Vatican halls, Lawrence finds himself at the centre of a conspiracy and discovers a secret that could shake the very foundation of the Church.
