Handel: Saul

Handel’s highly-dramatic work

St Stephen's Church

The story of the rise and fall of Saul is fraught with drama: violence, madness, mayhem, and sorcery, as well as jealousy and love. Bath Cantata Group directed by Neil Moore along with a Baroque orchestra and a wonderful team of soloists perform one of Handel’s most brilliant works. Principal characters include Michal (Anastasia Bevan), smitten with David (Solomon Hayes), Saul’s haughty and class-conscious daughter Merab (Eleanor Little), and his eldest son Jonathan (Patrick Burrowes), whose reciprocated devotion to David is more vividly portrayed than any other relationship in the libretto or the Scriptures. Saul (Niall Hoskin) starts as ‘the handsomest man in Isreal’ but ends with his ignominious death in battle. Don’t miss out!
