Little Theatre Cinema

This exceptional film somehow crept under the radar of most cinema-goers, when it was released so we’re thrilled to be able to hold a special screening with the director present to talk about the film and answer questions. Ria is a young woman passionately committed to martial arts, and deeply averse to the family’s conservative Asian traditions, such as arranged marriage - especially when this is inflicted upon her all-too-willing beloved older sister. Ria is convinced her brother-in-law-to-be (and family) are not what they appear to be, and decides to take matters into her own hands. It’s a whole lot of fun.

SYNOPSIS:
A merry mash up of sisterly affection, parental disappointment and bold action, Polite Society follows martial artist-in-training Ria Khan who believes she must save her older sister Lena from her impending marriage. After enlisting the help of her friends, Ria attempts to pull off the most ambitious of all wedding heists in the name of independence and sisterhood.
