Bath Phil & Nicola Benedetti 2024

For the benefit of Bath Phil Charity No. 1073393

The Forum

Start your new year facing a brighter future with Bath Phil in a concert that shimmers in the moonlight and embraces the warm glow of home, featuring superstar violinist Nicola Benedetti performing Bruch’s gloriously romantic evocation of Scotland.

American composer Joan Tower has written a series of exhilarating ‘Fanfares for the Uncommon Woman’ (unapologetically in response to Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man). Dvorak’s heartfelt slow movement from the New World Symphony (made famous by a Hovis bread advert in the 1980s) embraces a sense of longing for home whilst Nicola Benedetti, Scottish superstar violinist takes us on a whirlwind tour of her home country playing Max Bruch’s evocative and romantic Scottish Fantasy, based on traditional folk songs including ‘Scots Wha Hae’ and ‘Hey Tuttie Tattie’.

Vaughan Williams’ seldom performed orchestral version of his Serenade to Music is a sumptuous, evocative and nocturnal musical masterpiece and is perfectly complemented by the silvery gossamer textures from the imagination of the young British composer Dani Howard in Argentum, a piece written to celebrate Classic FM’s 25th anniversary.

“Benedetti has the technique, passion and energy to compete with the best.” The Observer
