Bath Phil & Peter Donohoe

The Forum

Bath Phil comes knocking at the door with the first movement of Beethoven’s fifth symphony, (THE most famous musical statement ever written), in an evening of powerful and passionate music featuring internationally renowned pianist Peter Donohoe, performing Mozart’s moody Concerto in D minor and Shostakovich’s playful Second Concerto.

Bath Philharmonia performs excerpts from Beethoven’s two most epic and exciting symphonies and music by Ayanna Witter-Johnson, one of Britain’s most celebrated young composers whose music is strongly influenced by the sounds of 21st century urban life. Peter Donohoe, one of Britain’s finest musical minds, performs not just one but two piano concertos. Shostakovich’s 2nd Piano Concerto is brash, cheeky, and witty with a gloriously beautiful slow movement whilst Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor is brooding, elegant and simply delectable.

Donohoe is very special. He's a lion of the keyboard, but he's also a poet. From Donohoe you will experience thunder and steel; but you will also experience exquisite lyricism and sensitivity.” Michael Tumelty, The Herald, Scotland
