Italian composers Luigi Boccherini and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco share links to Spain, Boccherini working for the Royal Court in Barcelona, and Tedesco descended from exiled Spanish Jews. Each of the guitar quintets presented demonstrates a fiery flair. Boccherini’s Fandango Quintet is one of the most famous examples of this instrumentation, with film composer Tedesco’s plethora of musical references packaged into his inimitably cinematic style.
