The Berlin-based Leonkoro Quartet was formed in 2019. Their name means lionheart in Esperanto. In April 2022, the quartet won first prize and no fewer than 9 of the special prizes at the prestigious Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition in London, despite being the youngest quartet competing with an average age of just 24. For their Bath debut they will play Haydn’s The Dream, followed by Mozart’s late final Prussian Quartet – skilful, detailed and virtuosic. Then the Quartet will be joined by Annelien Van Wauwe for Brahms’s Clarinet Quintet in B minor Op 115. Written when Brahms was at the height of his creative powers this much-loved work has beautiful musical lines and richly expressive colours.
