MENUMarielle Heller has made 3 wonderful films already - Diary of a Teenage Girl, Can You Ever Forgive Me? And A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood. Her latest is based on a novel written by Rachel Yoder, and tells the story of a mother and wife (Amy Adams) who begins to find the limitations of the role unbearably oppressive, which is when she starts developing the characteristics (both inner and outer) of a more feral being. Combining comedy and horror, Heller’s film is a modern feminist parable which hits the spot every time.
SYNOPSIS: One day, the mother was a mother but then, one night, she was quite suddenly something else. At home full-time with her two-year-old son, an artist finds she is struggling. She is lonely and exhausted. Was it really what she had imagined? Her husband, always travelling for his work, calls her from faraway hotel rooms. One more toddler bedtime, and she fears she might lose her mind.
