Universal Theory

Johannes is a young man on the verge of completing his thesis on quantum theory, and is accompanying his grudging professor to a scientific congress in the Swiss Alps where quantum theory is the main topic on the menu. They meet another professor, who is more encouraging about Johannes’s ideas (which Professor Strathen dismisses as hocus focus). At the resort, the jazz pianist Karin seems to know more about Johannes than can be easily explained. There is an avalanche, things that go bump (or boom) in the night, and whole slew of mysteries, which a pair of incompetent yet hard-boiled policemen keep failing to solve. It all amounts to a lot of fun, keeping the audience on its toes throughout, both with the twists of the plot, and the changes in tone and genre - all filmed in gorgeous black and white.
