The Jesters Of Bath is thrilled to announce its grand opening on Saturday, October 12th. This intimate venue, located in the freshly revamped cellar bar under The Assembly Inn on Alfred Street, promises to become a cornerstone of the city's comedy scene, offering a unique and exclusive setting for both audiences and performers.
Founded by Sam Hawkins, a seasoned figure in Bath's comedy circuit, The Jesters is poised to deliver a fresh and exciting addition to the local entertainment landscape. Hawkins has been a driving force behind Pint & A Laugh, a popular new material night that has brought comedy to various venues across the city, including The Saracens Head and The Ale House, over the past three years. In addition, Hawkins organized The Poor Mans Fringe, a grassroots comedy festival in August that catered to performers and audiences who couldn't make it to the Edinburgh Fringe.
The creation of The Jesters wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support from the local community. In just two days, a GoFundMe campaign raised over £2000, a testament to the strong demand for a dedicated comedy venue in Bath. This overwhelming response has enabled the transformation of The Assembly Inn’s cellar bar into a vibrant new space for comedy.
A One-of-a-Kind Comedy Experience
With a maximum capacity of just 70 seats, The Jesters offers an intimate atmosphere where audiences can enjoy an up-close and personal experience with some of the best comedic talent from across the country. The small size of the venue ensures that every performance feels special, providing a rare opportunity to see top-tier acts in a setting that’s both cozy and exclusive.
To celebrate its opening, The Jesters will host a variety of comedy nights each week:
New Material Night (Mondays): A staple of Sam Hawkins’ previous ventures, this night offers a platform for comedians to test new material in a supportive environment.
The Irregulars (Fridays): A rotating line-up of rising stars from the comedy world, bringing fresh faces and new energy to the Bath stage every week.
