An Dannsa Dub
future dub from Ancient Scotland
Chapel Arts Centre
MENUMusic is one big conversation. And few bands live at the heart of it like An Dannsa Dub.
Born from a love of traditional Scottish folk, dub reggae and dance music, together they summon the joyous, communal energy of a cèilidh and a sound system session.
Their name comes from the Gaelic for “The Dub Dance”. Their sound celebrates the ancient Gaelic and West African rhythms that influenced reggae, which in turn, via sound system culture and dub’s pioneering remixes, produced modern dance music. Their live shows and recordings are a seamless, pulsating fusion of all this and more.
An Dannsa Dub have carried this unique, unstoppable sound to the UK festival circuit. They’ve thrilled a 10,000 strong crowd at Boomtown Fair and have headlined a sold out show at Celtic Connections, the UK's premier Celtic music festival.
2021’s self-titled EP "An Dannsa Dub" brought the group worldwide acclaim. The release has been played on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Nan Gàidheal and BBC Scotland. It’s been supported by Don Letts, who included it in his “Best Of 22”, as well as Tom Robinson, Mungo's Hi Fi, and OBF.
The debut album Air An Turas released 17th March 2023 features stacks of exciting collaborations, An Dannsa Dub are gearing up for a busy year of international touring. Keep your eyes peeled for a show near you…

"An Dannsa Dub has the things I like, charm and character and does not sound like a pale imitation of anything else"
Mungo’s Hi Fi (Scotch Bonnet Records)
“The roots of folk and dub are deeply intertwined. An Dannsa succeeds in capturing the best of each tradition in a thoroughly original and exciting manner.”

Golden Thread Single Release Review from “Fresh On The Net”
“Summer vibes and it’s not even warm yet! Nice. This is quite quite a mix, as it combines folk music with reggae!
What I like about this song is that they’ve incorporated instruments you wouldn’t usually associate with reggae – a flute and a violin, and it works so well, the melodies they add really sets it off well. This song is about the passing of legacies through storytelling, music, and learning from seasons passing, it’s essentially a song that really speaks for itself, very poetic.
I think my favourite part of this song is the drums — it’s laid back from the intro, the cymbals are played on the bells to make it really ring out. I would be surprised if those drums are not live – hats off to the drummer! I like the tape echo added to the instruments towards the end as well, this is dub elements at its best!”
