MENUAndrea Arnold is one of the most impressive British directors working today, with a unique and idiosyncratic view of the world, and an impressive body of work - to which this is the latest addition. Premiered at Cannes, where it was nominated for the Palme D’Or (and also won another prix), Bird focuses on the challenges faced by Bailey (a 12 year old growing up in a squat in Kent with a brother, and a father called Bug (Barry Keoghan) whose commitment to parenting is less than 100%. Arnold is well known for her unflinching look at working class life and deprivation (e.g. Red Road), and while Bird starts off in that genre, it switches to a different kind of realism which allows the audience to feel the potential of life.
SYNOPSIS:
Bailey lives with her brother Hunter and her father Bug, who raises them alone in a squat in northern Kent. Bug doesn't have much time to devote to them. Bailey looks for attention and adventure elsewhere.
