BOCA CHICA with pre-recorded intro by co-writers Mariana Rondón and Marité Ugás and pre-recorded Q&A with director Gabriella Moses
Desi lives with her mother and aunt, while her older brother Fran (Jean Cruz) works as a food delivery guy in Manhattan, and her cousin Elvis (Ricarson Diaz) leads a separate life in Texas. When Elvis returns home to marry his American fiancée, the family, especially Desi, is thrown into stress. At just 12 years old, Desi is seen as an adult because of her physical development, a reflection of the toxic expectations in Dominican households where physical maturity is wrongly equated with mental maturity. Despite being a child, she faces unwanted advances from much older men, who are misguidedly praised. This oppressive environment fuels her urgent desire to leave and chase her dream of becoming a singer.
