MENUBrahms Ein Deutsches Requiem
Poulenc Gloria
The text of Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem is drawn from the Lutheran Bible and the seven movements are a celebration of life and salvation. The fourth movement drawn from the Psalms is often performed in English as the anthem ‘How lovely are thy dwellings fair’. Bath Choral Society will perform the full orchestral version in German.
By contrast Poulenc’s Gloria, written in 1959, sets the text of the Gloria from the Latin Mass. The six movements vary in style and mood and feature a dramatic Soprano solo for the ‘Domine Deus’.
