The international prize winning Maxwell String Quartet bring us two masterpieces. The Haydn is one of the six Op 20 Sun set which established the string quartet as a transcendent musical form. The Beethoven quartet is one of the most extraordinary musical journeys ever composed. In seven movements and lasting for 40 minutes it has profound depth of emotion and meaning. It was the worthy subject of the film A Late Quartet. The programme is completed with a set of the Maxwells’ utterly charming arrangements of Scottish folk songs.
