Schubert Rondo in B minor D 895 Brilliant
R Schumann Three Romances Op 94
Brahms Sonata No 1 in G major Op 78 Regensonate
Two musicians at the start of impressive careers join forces in this concert. The US/Dutch violinist Stephen Waarts won the Menuhin competition in 2014 aged 17. Pianist Martin Klett is also a major competition winner and the Hamburg native from a musical family is much praised across musical genres. Their Bath concert includes Robert Schumann’s Three Romances Op 94, written as a Christmas present for the composer’s wife, Clara, and Brahms’s Sonata No 1 in G major Op 78. The latter’s title of Regensonate (Rain Sonata) refers to Brahms’s re-use of one of his own songs, Regenlied (Rain Song), in creating the third movement finale of this graceful, tender truly Romantic work.
