National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine
Presented by Bristol Beacon at Bath Forum
The Forum
MENUFormed in 1918, The National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine (NSOU) is the country’s principal orchestra and recognised as one of the finest symphony orchestras in Eastern Europe, having achieved worldwide recognition through multiple international tours.
Since 1993, the 98-strong orchestra has released more than 100 critically acclaimed recordings featuring Ukrainian and international repertoire. We are delighted to present the orchestra’s visit to Bath Forum this October as the first date in a 17-concert tour of the UK – its biggest UK tour in 100 years.
The orchestra’s performance in Bath will include a specially selected piece by Ukrainian composer Boris Lyatoshynsky (1895–1968) whose works the NSOU have proudly premiered in the past. Lyatoshynksy’s works are considered extremely accessible, thrilling and well-loved by audiences whenever they are performed, and it’s a special privilege to have his work in the programme for this concert.
In addition to providing a UK-wide platform for the orchestra to perform, the 2023 tour is also fundraising to support the NSOU and the continuation of Ukraine’s rich musical culture during the ongoing conflict the country is facing. A JustGiving appeal has been set up with a target of raising £24,000, with all proceeds being donated directly to the orchestra at the end of their tour.
