Sisters with Transistors + DJ set

FilmBath Festival

Burdall's Yard

SISTERS WITH TRANSISTORS is the untold story of electronic music’s female pioneers, remarkable composers who embraced machines and their liberating technologies to utterly transform how we produce and listen to music today.

After the screening, immerse yourself in a DJ set from Remy Melee (Deep/Experimental/Lofi House) and live coding visuals set from datarav3 (Nigel Fryatt) at Burdall’s Yard. Together, they will celebrate the essence of live electronic music performance throughout time, giving you the chance to lose yourself in beats and visuals, and experience the energy of electronic music in its purest form.

This event is perfect for anyone interested in film, the intersection of music and technology, the pioneers of electronic music, or those looking to experience the fusion of live-coded visuals and house music.

"Electrifying... Feels less like a film and more like a manifesto." - Rogerebert.com

"A vital historical corrective." - Los Angeles Times

"A magical, important film." - Jim Kolmar, SXSW

Presented in partnership with POLYMATHIC and Creative Bath and supported by Burdall’s Yard.

More Information
The remarkable world of electronic music has been constantly evolving since its inception in the early 20th century. From the unlimited possibilities of digital synthesisers to the recent analog recording revival; from the impossibly perfect pitch of Auto-Tune to the democratisation of music-making for a generation of ‘bedroom’ producers - each of these extraordinary developments is directly connected to the work and artistry of the women featured in “Sisters with Transistors.”  Clara Rockmore, Daphne Oram, Bebe Barron, Delia Derbyshire, Maryanne Amacher, Pauline Oliveros, Wendy Carlos, Eliane Radigue, Suzanne Ciani, and Laurie Spiegel are among the greatest pioneers of modern sound, and we continue to feel their influence yet most people have never heard of them.

What is Live Coding?
Live coding is the practice of using on-the-fly computer programming to produce digital visuals or audio live and in the moment. Often, the field is associated with creative and performative arts, where the process of coding is made transparent and becomes part of the performance itself. This can involve generating music, visuals, or interactive art in real-time, with the audience witnessing the code as it is written and executed. The practice is closely linked to the algorithmic arts and is popular in experimental music scenes, where improvisation and spontaneity play key roles.
