Another 2023 ‘first’ for Bath Bachfest is a performance by a viol consort, Fretwork. We go straight to the top of the charts with Fretwork as the quintet described as “the finest viol consort on the planet” by the London Evening Standard’s music critic! The players will be joined in their programme of Bach, Purcell, Handel, and Rameau by the Welsh soprano Ruby Hughes who has received particular acclaim for her sensitive interpretation of the music of the Baroque period.
